AngelHack is a 24 hours business-focused technology hackathon. It is perhaps the largest hackathon in the world because this competition is offered in more than 30 cities around the world. The winner of this hackathon will get a 4 week training to make their hacks into a business. Then, they will go to San Francisco to pitch their business to some of the most well-known venture capitalists in the valley. It is truly an amazing competition.
Unfortunately, our team didn't made it to the top 6 lists. Nonetheless, it was a great experience to have the chance to produce something truly cool in 24 hours and show it to business expert. Unexpectedly, we did get quite a few critical reviews from our judges (Derek Fung and Michael Cayley). But I think they were good feedback for us to start a business out of our project if we wanted to.
I think this really a great opportunities for grad students like us to get together and create something great. One of the main problem with grad students (my own personal opinion) is we think too highly and noble of ourselves. We think solving "academic" problems makes us great. We think we can do it by ourselves. We believe we are right most of the time. I think these are some of the wrong mentalities of grad students. I might piss off some people but I truly believe great things come about only with collaborations and exchanges of idea. So, why not form a team and try out an event like this?
